PLEASE CONTACT US IF YOU WISH TO SELL A WORK BY FRANCESCO CLEMENTE
Born in Naples, Italy, Francesco Clemente is an Italian contemporary artist whose work is influenced by his frequent travels between New York and Varanasi, India. After studying architecture in Rome, Clemente traveled to Afghanistan and India and exhibited works that expressed his interest in the contemplative traditions of India. He works in a variety of mediums, including oil paint, pastel, watercolor, and printmaking. His current work develops in a non linear mode, not defined by a particular style, but by his recording of the changes of the self. Overall, Clemente's goal is to focus on an expanded consciousness and the survival of the ecstatic experience in the context of a materialistic society. He has shown work at the Whitechapel Art Gallery in London, the Walker Art Center in Minneapolis, the Nationale Galerie in Berlin, the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, and the Art Institute of Chicago. Currently, he is showing work at the Federal Art and Exhibition Hall in Bonn, Germany.
