Landscape and still life painter, Albertus Del Orient Browere was born in Tarrytown, New York. He was the son of a sculptor, Isaac Browere, who was famous for his plaster life masks of Thomas Jefferson and others. After moving to Catskill, New York, from around 1834 to 1840, Browere exhibited works at the American Art-Union, the Apollo Association, and the National Academy. His landscape paintings are primarily of the region of Catskill. While the Gold Rush lured Browere to California in 1852, he soon returned to Catskill to continue painting.
Browere was awarded a silver medal at the American Institute of the City of New York (1832) and a silver medal from the National Academy (1841). His most famous painting, "Mrs. Cormick's General Store" (1844) is on display at the New York Historical Association in Cooperstown.
