Benjamin Franklin Jones is an African American Artist who focuses on the subjects of spirituality and politics and their effects on social life. Born in New Jersey, he was influenced greatly by his high school teacher who encouraged him to go the art museum on the weekends. Jones earned his MFA from Pratt University, MA from New York University and BFA from Paterson University. Jones’s works are consisting of mixed media from paint, crayon, color pencil, prints, etc. Most of his works are abstract and put together as collage. Jones has traveled to Africa, Europe, South America, United States and the Caribbean, which became a research and inspiration to create his works. He has made over fifty visits to Cuba since the 70's, and is hailed by the Granma International of Havana, Cuba as one of the most important African-American artists of our generation. He is currently a Professor of Art at New Jersey City University in Jersey City, NJ.
