Charles Beauregard was born in Montreal, Canada, but lived the majority of his life in Troy, New York. Beauregard was largely influenced by American painter John LaFarge's painting style and the Hudson River School. Dealing initially with portraiture, Beauregard later focused on still life. His later works also shared the common theme of trees and cows along rivers. Moreover, he painted mainly with oil paint on canvas boards. Beauregard worked as a teacher at the Emma Willard Private School in Troy.
