Born in Baltimore, Maryland, Elton Clay Fax was an African American Cartoonist & Illustrator. He attended Claflin College and gradated from Syracuse University in 1931 with a B.F.A in Painting. Fax illustrated in over 30 books and Magazines. His career as a cartoonist also was influential in black communities throughout the United States. He traveled and gave lectures around the world and became known as the “Chalk-Talk” artist. Fax was also a successful writer who wrote about black culture and life. His works have been featured at the Smithsonian Institution's National Gallery of Art in Washington, D.C.
