Born in Florence, Italy to American parents, Sargent became one of the most successful portrait painters in his time. As well as being a gifted landscape painter, he was also highly talented as a watercolorist. Sargent trained in Paris with Carolus-Duran and later the Ecole des Beaux Arts in France before moving to London. His life’s work consisted of countless oil paintings, water colors, as well as sketches and charcoal drawings. Sargent spent a lot of time painting outdoors in the English countryside. This inspired his impressionistic techniques. Sargent’s works have been exhibited at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York, the Royal Academy and Tate Gallery in London, and the Grand Central Art Galleries.
