Joseph Kleitsch (1882 – 1931)

Born in the Banat Region of Hungary, Kleitsch began his artistic career at the age of seven. He traveled to Budapest, Munich, and Paris to train as an artist. By the age of seventeen, Kleitsch successfully acclaimed himself as an accomplished portraitist. In 1901, Kleitsch moved to America where he finally settled in Laguna Beach, California where he quickly fell in love with the rustic artist village. Many of Kletisch’s works were inspired by this notable town’s streets and Pacific coastline.
Joseph Kleitsch was a member of the Chicago Society of Artists, Laguna Beach Art Association, Painters’ and Sculptors’ Club, and Palette and
Chisel Club of Chicago. His works have been displayed at the Irvine Museum, Joseph Kleitsch Gallery, Fleischer Museum, and Laguna Art
Museum.
