American Impressionist painter Lewis Henry Meakin was born in Newcastle, England. He later moved and settled in Cincinnati, Ohio where began painting landscapes. He attended the School of Design in Cincinnati with fellow artist John Twachtman. He later moved to Europe
where he spent some time studying in schools in Germany, France and Italy. Before becoming a curator for the Cincinnati Museum, Meakin
also took on a teaching position at the Cincinnati Art Academy. Meakin’s work is on display at the Cincinnati Museum as well as
various other collections.
