Born in Oahu, Hawaii, American modernistic and impressionistic painter Mabel Alvarez displayed her artistic talent at a young age. She
attended a Los Angeles art school in 1915 and later William Cahill’s School for Illustration and Painting in Los Angeles. Alvarez’s works were greatly influenced by Stanton MacDonald-Wright and Morgan Russell sparking her interest in art-nouveau and impressionism. Her painting
style consisted of a lot of variations of green. To Alvarez, green represented a variety of ideals and archetypes. Alvarez’s work has been displayed at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Honolulu Museum of Art, as well as the San Diego Museum of Art.
