Maurice Logan (1866 – 1977)

Born in San Francisco, California, Logan received formal art training at the Mark Hopkins Institute of Art, California College of Arts and Crafts, and the Chicago Art Institute. Around 1915, Logan’s artistic talent began to receive some attention. He later became one of the best known commercial illustrators and poster designers of his time. Logan later began to paint and would use a colorful palette in his works. His oil paintings were highly expressionist and he exhibited his work as a member of the Society of Six. Logan later taught at the California College of Arts and Crafts. Logan’s work may be seen at the Oakland Art Museum, the Bohemian Club, and other public and private collections.
