Born in Madison County, Ohio, Paul Sawyier became one of the most renowned American Impressionist painters of his time. After high
school, Sawyier attended the Art Academy of Cincinnati – then known as the McMicken School of Design. He later moved to New York and studied at the Art Students League. Much of Sawyier’s work is done in watercolor and his paintings are considered to be historical
documentation of the Kentucky River at the turn of the Twentieth Century. Sawyier painted many landscapes as well as portraits of the
local individuals. His landscapes were done in an impressionistic style and he mainly painted the Kentucky landscapes. His later paintings were primarily done in oil. Sawyier’s work can be found at many public and private collections.
