Born in Wallingford, Connecticut, Robert Gober is an American sculptor whose work is often related to domestic objects. Gober studied at Middlebury College, Vermont and the Tyler School of Art in Rome. He works primarily with sculpture, but has also made photographs, prints, drawings, and has curated exhibitions. His most well known series of works of sculptures of sinks has been exhibited in Europe, North America and Japan. Often using familiar, household objects, such as sinks, doors, and legs, mingled with themes of nature, religion, politics, and sexuality, Gober's sculptures are so meticulously handcrafted that they appear to just be re-creations of these common objects. Gober is currently living and working in New York City and is represented by the Matthew Marks Gallery. His work can be seen at the Whitney Museum of American Art, the Museum of Modern Art, San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, amongst many others.
